Oberschleißheim / Freising

- On the A 99 near Oberschleißheim, a truck driver - presumably while sleeping for a second - recorded a patrol car of the Freising traffic police.

The car is a total write-off, luckily nobody was injured.

Police officers secured broken down trucks

As the police headquarters in Munich reported, a patrol from the VPI Freising secured a breakdown truck that had broken down and was on the hard shoulder on Monday at around 10.25 a.m. on the A 99 in the direction of Stuttgart between Neuherberg and the Feldmoching motorway triangle. The two officers parked their uniformed BMW 5 series with the blue light and signal system switched on on the right-hand side of the lane for security. They also secured the danger area with a warning triangle and pylons.

At this point in time, a driver (51) was driving in the right-hand lane of the motorway.

He drove head-on into the parked police car, pushed it to the right against the guardrail and dragged it about 75 meters along the guardrail.

Only when the articulated lorry turned left onto the first lane did the police vehicle come to a halt on the guardrail and the articulated lorry on the right-hand lane.

Debris flying around

“No one was injured in the traffic accident due to the level-headed action of the officers deployed and the security vehicle being moved far back,” the police report said.

The police car was totaled.

In addition, a VW on the center lane was damaged by debris flying around.

The total damage to property amounts to around 60,000 euros.

The police car and the badly damaged tractor-trailer had to be towed away.

The right-hand lane was completely closed for the duration of the accident recording and the recovery of the vehicles, which resulted in significant traffic obstructions.

Because there are indications that the driver of the tractor unit fell into a microsleep shortly before the accident, the VPI Munich is investigating the danger to road traffic.
