Finally going on holiday abroad again - that's what many are dreaming of at the moment.

It's still difficult.

Anyone who enjoys reading crime novels now has the opportunity to go on literary journeys.

An Eichenau author has contributed to an exciting anthology with short stories.

Eichenau

- “In 18 Murder Around the World” is the name of an anthology with short stories that takes readers to five continents.

The Eichenau author Thea Lehmann, whose books are usually based in Saxon Switzerland, also contributed a short detective story.

He plays in Namibia.

In the 1980s, Thea Lehmann traveled extensively in southern Africa.

When she thinks back to Namibia, the most important thing that springs to mind is the vastness - a huge, empty country under a seemingly endless sky.

One day she was driving on a dead straight road and saw a car coming towards her from afar.

It took half an hour for the other vehicle to actually pass them.

Only then did she realize how many tens of kilometers you could see in the clear, dry air.

“It was a feeling of infinity,” says the 61-year-old.

She recently brought this feeling back when it came time to write her contribution to the crime fiction anthology.

The story of a lonely farmer seems very authentic, even if Lehmann never went out with a shouldered rifle himself or treated injured calves on the huge pastures.

At that time, however, she was already a guest on a farm.

“I still have my old diary from the trip.

It helped me to put myself back in my shoes, ”says the author, who runs a press office full-time.

She is proud to have been included in the anthology.

The title and the hot air balloon depicted on the book cover are an homage to Jules Verne, but there are no similarities in terms of content - the contributions neither play 20,000 leagues under the sea nor lead them to the center of the earth.

Rather, the stories of the 20 authors go from the London Tower via South Tyrol and Greece to Africa, via Israel and Iran to Southeast Asia, via Australia to America and finally back to Europe.

(And yes, there are 20 authors, but only 18 murders - the victims survive in two of the stories.)

The anthology is a project by the “Murderous Sisters”.

This is an association that has set itself the goal of promoting German-language tension literature written by women.

“The fact is that crime novels are less reviewed by women,” says Thea Lehmann.

Most of the time, the men would also win crime prizes.

Numbers prove this - the Eichenauerin refers to a study by the University of Rostock, which certifies women a lower visibility in the literature business and the media.

Authors find all kinds of support from the Murderous Sisters.

The approximately 600 members of the association include experts who know about poisons and weapons.

Newcomers can get advice if they are looking for a good proofreading or a suitable publisher, if they need help with marketing or self-publishing.

“Otherwise you have to work it all out yourself,” says Thea Lehmann.

The association has also launched a crime thriller - the "Golden Auguste", named after Auguste Groner (1850-1929).

The Viennese woman was practically the mother of all murderous sisters.

She is considered the first German-speaking crime writer and inventor of the first series detective in German-language literature.

If the corona incidence allows, a reading by Thea Lehmann in the Mammendorfer Bürgerhaus is planned for May 19, 7 p.m.
