A Royal expert gives further details.

London - The departure of Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan from the British royal family was certainly one of the greatest upsets that the British royals had to experience since the turn of the millennium.

Harry and Meghan's progressive alienation from the royal family, which culminated in the now infamous Oprah interview, could have begun shortly after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding.

Harry and Meghan: residence too small?

Duchess is said to have been jealous of Kate

Like the Royal expert Tom Quinn in the Daily Mirror podcast "Pod Safe the Queen", the Duchess of Sussex is said to have been dissatisfied with the domicile that the royal family had made available to her and Harry.

Frogmore Cottage in the park at Windsor Castle was intended for Harry and Meghan and was renovated for this purpose for 2.4 million pounds (approx. 2.8 million euros).

Despite extensive renovations, Frogmore Cottage was said to have been too "small" for the Duchess of Sussex.

Especially compared to the residence of her sister-in-law, Duchess Kate.

In 2012, the 39-year-old moved with her husband Prince William to the much larger and more magnificent Kensington Palace, where they continue to live.

For Duchess Meghan, this contrast was a hint of what her position in the royal family should look like, says Tom Quinn.

"It seemed like they were being deported to a small prefabricated house on the premises," said the Royal expert, who has already written a book about Kensington Palace.

Harry and Meghan: did this treatment lead to a departure from royalty?

The Duchess of Sussex is said to have realized that she and Prince Harry would be in the line of succession as well as in everyday life in the shadow of William and Kate, explains Quinn.

As the eldest son of Prince Charles, Prince William ranks second on the British throne.

Prince Harry only follows in sixth place, behind Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, the three children of William and Kate.

In the meantime, Meghan and Harry have turned their backs on Frogmore Cottage and now live in a villa for around 12.5 million euros in Santa Barbara, California.
