There is every reason to welcome the recent circular by Jean-Michel Blanquer published in the Official Bulletin of May 6, prohibiting the use of inclusive writing in school education, and recalling that the same prohibition is in place for drafting of administrative acts.
But the reasoning used to justify this ban can be puzzling.
At the heart of the circular, three arguments are in fact put forward.
The first is that the use of this writing is misguided since it upsets and excessively complicates the rules of agreement of verbs and adjectives.
