Renewed tension between Armenia and Azerbaijan

As the world looks to the Israeli-Palestinian clashes, another old conflict threatens to resume.

On Thursday, Nikol Pachinian, the interim Armenian Prime Minister - he resigned pending new elections on June 20 - accused Azebaijan of having infiltrated troops in Armenia to take control of border territories in edge of Lake Sev, shared by the two countries.

The case constitutes the most serious peak of tensions between the two neighbors of the South Caucasus since their six-week military confrontation, between September and November, around Nagorno-Karabakh, an enclave populated by Armenians but located in Azeri territory.

These fights had claimed 6,000 victims on both sides, adding to the 33,000 dead in this war which has been going on since the beginning of the 1990s. The last episode of the conflict ended in a victory for Baku, solidly supported by Turkey, and by the retrocession to the Azerbaijanis
