The Court of Cassation rejected Redoine Faïd's appeals against the judgment of the Pas-de-Calais Assize Court condemning him to 28 years in prison for the attack on an armored van in 2011, according to a judgment consulted by AFP this Friday, May 14.

The multirecidivist robber was sentenced on appeal on March 13, 2020 to 28 years of criminal imprisonment, ten years more than at first instance, in particular for "

theft with weapons

", "

degradation by a dangerous means

", "

aggravated violence

" and “

criminal association

”.

On October 19, 2017, the North Assize Court had indeed sentenced him to 18 years in prison, finding him guilty, along with four other accomplices, of having attacked with explosives an armored van of the Loomis company on a route nationale du Pas-de-Calais on March 17, 2011, stealing more than two million euros.

Faïd, who had started a hunger strike on February 20, 2020 (arrested on March 11, 2020) to protest against his conditions of solitary confinement at the Vendin-le-Vieil prison (Pas-de-Calais), was absent throughout his appeal trial.

Just like his lawyers, who had unsuccessfully called for the referral of the case due in particular to the state of health of the accused.

The Court of Cassation dismissed these appeals, ruling in particular that the accused "

could renew his attitude at the approach of a new date fixed

" for his trial if it was dismissed and that "

the attitude of the applicant

" should be analyzed as a "

refusal to appear

", his state of health "

cannot be considered independently of his will not to eat and not to drink

", we can read in the judgment of the Court of Cassation rendered May 12. The sentence handed down on appeal is confused with his conviction in 2018 to 25 years' imprisonment for his role as “

organizer

” of a failed robbery in 2010 that cost the life of a municipal policewoman.

In 2017, Redoine Faïd was also sentenced to 10 years in prison for his escape from a northern prison in April 2013. He must still be tried for a second spectacular escape from Réau prison, in the Paris region, in July 2018.
