The Hong Kong Jockey Club announced today (14th) that it signed a framework cooperation agreement with the Guangzhou Municipal Government to promote the development of the horse industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

The agreement has three main contents, including holding international-level horse racing events, upgrading the facilities of Conghua Racecourse, and establishing a horse industry chain.

According to the agreement, Conghua Racecourse will host regular horse racing events from 2025.

The Jockey Club also pointed out that Guangdong Province and the Hong Kong government have also signed an agreement to set up a task force for Guangdong-Hong Kong horse industry cooperation.

The Jockey Club also signed a supplementary memorandum with the Guangdong Provincial Sports Bureau, including strengthening the training of talents for horse sports and the horse industry, as well as youth sports exchange activities in the Greater Bay Area.

Jockey Club Chief Executive Ying Jiabai said that since the opening of Conghua Racecourse in 2018, it has become an indispensable part of Hong Kong's world-class horse racing.

The Jockey Club stated that in the agreement between the Guangzhou Municipal Government and the Jockey Club, the main objectives, scope and details of the cooperation between the two parties have been set, including the establishment of international-class horse racing in Guangzhou by making full use of the international status of the Jockey Club and the world-class facilities of Conghua Racecourse. System to enhance the positioning of Conghua Racecourse and provide a strategic platform for national and international horse racing.

The agreement also laid a solid foundation for the cooperation between the two parties to implement the National Equine Industry Development Plan (2020-2025) issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the State Sports General Administration last year.

Conghua Racecourse hosts international competitions and builds spectator stands

In order to achieve the goal, the agreement has established three main contents, including holding international-level horse racing events.

The two parties will cooperate to introduce international-level horse racing events at Conghua Racecourse, and proceed in accordance with the competition rules and supervision mechanism formulated by the Jockey Club in accordance with the best practice models of international horse racing.

According to the agreement, Conghua Racecourse will host regular horse racing events from 2025.

The second is to upgrade the facilities of Conghua Racecourse. In order to show the potential of Conghua Racecourse as a world-class speed racing center, the Jockey Club will improve the infrastructure of Conghua Racecourse, including the construction of a new landmark spectator stand, and the addition of a restaurant, Horse training facilities and expansion of staff dormitories.

The Guangzhou Municipal Government will add a channel to the Conghua Racecourse to improve its accessibility.

The above projects have helped to consolidate the operation mode of the Jockey Club in the two places, and further complement the existing horse training center in Sha Tin.

Its improvement plan will also provide more opportunities for the Jockey Club to cultivate professional horse industry teams in the Mainland and further support the training of world-class horse industry professionals in the Greater Bay Area.

Construction of international equine quarantine facilities

Third, establish a horse industry chain.

The Jockey Club will build international horse isolation and quarantine facilities to provide basic conditions for the transportation, import and export of domestic and foreign horses.

In addition, the Jockey Club will provide training programs through the Training Academy.

The above projects include the promotion of veterinary professional development and academic cooperation; convenient customs clearance and inspection of horses, forages, veterinary drugs and biological products in Guangzhou and Hong Kong; research and development of thoroughbred horse trading centers; and promotion of the development of equestrian sports in Guangzhou.

Organize youth sports exchange activities in the Greater Bay Area

The Jockey Club also pointed out that in today's ceremony, Guangdong Province and the Hong Kong government also signed an agreement announcing the establishment of a Guangdong-Hong Kong Horse Industry Cooperation Task Force under the Guangdong-Hong Kong Joint Conference Mechanism.

The Jockey Club also signed a supplementary memorandum with the Guangdong Provincial Sports Bureau to strengthen cooperation in horse sports and related fields, including training talents in horse sports and the horse industry, and youth sports exchange activities in the Greater Bay Area.
