Maintenance work is underway at Lake Resia. The water level was lowered and the remains of the submerged village resurfaced in 1950.
The lake has long been known for its bell tower which, isolated in the icy waters, peeps out. In recent years the reservoir has become famous for the novel "Resto qui" by Marco Balzano and for the successful Netflix series "Curon". Between 1949-50, Montedison created the dam for the production of electricity. The old town of Curon with its 163 houses was flooded for the construction of the mega work. The only building left standing is the bell tower of the church of Sant'Anna.
"Lake Resia - explains the operational director Alperia Greenpower Andreas Bordonetti - is the largest artificial lake in South Tyrol with 120 million cubic meters of reservoir capacity. It feeds the Glorenza hydroelectric plant which can produce up to 250 million of kw / h per year ". It is the first of the cascade of lifts in the Val Venosta that ends in Marlengo.
