“Ticking time bomb” under the Marzlinger roundabout?

During the construction of the B 301 north-east bypass, dangerous contaminated sites were simply filled in.

The BN and the Greens are now going public with this accusation.

"Negligent", "scandalous", "unbelievable": This is how the Bund Naturschutz Freising and politicians of the Greens from the district describe what the Free State of Bavaria achieved in the construction of the

B 301 north-east bypass: Although it had long been known that in the In the area of the junction near Marzling, dangerous contaminated sites from a former garbage dump are slumbering in the ground, according to the motto “after us the flood”, simply built over it and now - five years later - trying to sanction it retrospectively by means of an application to the architecture.

The BN and the Greens do not want to accept this approach.

There used to be a household garbage dump ...

From 1955 to 1973 the city of Freising operated a household waste dump on the site of the “Marzlinger Kreisel”.

Long-time residents of Freising such as Christian Magerl know this. And they know that, for example, tar was also disposed of back then - tar that contains dangerous PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons).

The Free State of Bavaria was also aware of this, as demonstrated by a detailed examination of the contaminated sites as part of the planning approval procedure for the construction of the northeast bypass.

It says that in this area “frequent contamination” with PAHs “with sometimes very high concentrations” can be found, as Magerl cited.

Just gravel over it

So that was known in 2016. But instead of going to the urgently needed rehabilitation of the landfill before starting the construction of the northeast bypass, they preferred to keep this investigation under lock and key and try the environmental problem now, after simply pouring three meters of gravel over it and lifting the top three meters to solve with a Tecture request.

And that five years later, as Freising's BN managing director and Green City Councilor Manfred Drobny is very surprised and therefore speaks of a “classic black building”. Magerl describes this procedure as "scandalous". Actually, the landfill should have been properly rehabilitated before the construction work began. But that was probably too expensive, which is why people prefer to accept negative consequences for the high groundwater at this point and damage and pollution of the climate through the escape of the landfill gas methane. Rehabilitation of the landfill area now that a new road has been built over it would of course be much more expensive.

And so the “dirt” would probably just disappear under the street for the next 50 years, fears BN district chairman Wolfgang Willner.

The BN will not come to terms with this, said Willner and Drobny, but instead, in a statement on the architecture proposal, call for the refurbishment of the landfill.

An "unacceptable process"

The state parliament member of the Greens, Johannes Becher, will also take action: It is "unbelievable" that the Free State will only approve a construction project afterwards.

The fact that the detailed investigation of the contaminated sites from 2016 was only received recently and then only on request, and that the negative effects on noise pollution for the residents due to the elevation of the roundabout were not taken into account - all of this was "an unacceptable process".

He would demand explanations from the state parliament with corresponding written inquiries.

Because what is slumbering under the top could, according to Drobny, be “a ticking time bomb”.
