A mentally problematic 25-year-old broke into the neighbors' house in Bernbeuren and seriously injured a senior citizen.

The incident was probably even more dramatic than expected.

Bernbeuren -

A reader had made the local newspaper aware of the incident, which the police never reported and which they had only confirmed upon request. According to this, the 25-year-old, who had long been in a state of psychological emergency and had repeatedly been put on record by the police, broke into the neighbors' house and seriously injured a senior citizen in a scramble.

The same reader has now reported further details of the incident, which the police and a witness also largely confirmed when asked.

Accordingly, the 25-year-old was not arrested by the police, as originally thought, after the incident with the elderly, but had left the house and went to a store.

“He was completely intoxicated, totally aggressive,” the shopkeeper describes the terrible moment.

He wanted to hide with her, she told him that was not possible.

Shop owner describes: "I was really scared in that situation"

"I then went to the back of the store for a moment when a customer told me that the man at the checkout was tampering with," reports the businesswoman. She hurried forward - and indeed: the man was standing at the open cash register and had some banknotes in hand. She bravely tore the money out of his hand and hit him twice with a riding crop. "After that, he built himself up in front of me and asked: What do you want?" Reports the businesswoman about the scary moment. "I said to him: 'I want you to go, get away'." And to her great relief, the man actually left the shop. “I only found out later what he did to the poor woman before,” she says. Immediately she locked the shop door to protect herself and the customer. Shortly afterwards the police were there“They came really quickly. But in that situation I was really scared. What if the man had also been armed? "

Carolin Englert, spokeswoman for the police headquarters in Upper Bavaria-South in Rosenheim, confirms the incident in the shop and that it is being investigated for attempted theft.

According to her, the motive of the 25-year-old was the search for alcohol.

Police: "Investigations have at least been completed on our part"

Why there was talk of an attempted murder on the pensioner is also clear when you hear the descriptions of the businesswoman.

According to her, the 25-year-old sat on the elderly woman and choked her when the victim's son-in-law came along and pulled the perpetrator away from her.

In addition, after leaving the house, the man tried twice to get back in and broke a window.

Police spokeswoman Englert did not want to confirm or deny this, but says: "The public prosecutor's assessment does not always have to match the assessment of the citizens." And the police are not responsible for classifying offenses, the public prosecutor's office does that. Therefore, the incidents are officially listed as dangerous bodily harm and attempted theft, which does not rule out that an attempted homicide charge may not be made. "The investigation is at least completed on our part," said Englert.

Now residents are afraid that the unpredictable 25-year-old will be released.

"He can't come back here, that won't work," says the shopkeeper, also looking at the neighbors with the seriously injured senior citizen.

At least there Englert can reassure: Also because of the many offenses before the attack "the man will remain in custody for the time being".
