Drying a fire hose by hand is really hard work.

In Münsing, this is now done by a hose maintenance system.

Münsing

- The hoses of the fire brigade have to withstand a lot in use - and are accordingly checked and maintained afterwards. That in turn means real hard work for several comrades at the same time. "Wash, hang up, take off again after a few days of drying time, roll up", is how Michael Reich from the Münsing volunteer fire department describes the procedure. For the comrades from his service and the other four municipal fire brigades in Münsing (Holzhausen, Ammerland, Degerndorf, St. Heinrich) this is now a thing of the past: "We have had a hose maintenance and testing system for a good month."

With its six square meters, it is not small, but it is extremely effective.

Instead of days of work with a lot of manpower, only one firefighter is needed to get a hose ready for use again within seven minutes.

The machine from the Bockermann company soaks, washes, checks for leaks, dries and rewinds the input material.

The system cost 72,000 euros, “whereby the community received 19,800 euros from the state subsidy as a fixed contribution”, reports Mayor Michael Grasl. Reich demonstrates the new system at the on-site visit: He places a hose in the intake and then connects it to the first test disc. Every step is controlled via a display, and every work step can be followed through the large viewing windows. Freshly washed, the hose is checked for leaks via another connection. It is filled with water until a pressure of 16 bar is reached. "He now has to hold it for a minute," explains Reich. So if there is a small hole somewhere, the weak point is recognized immediately.

“We did a lot of research in advance,” says First Commander Peter Müller.

This also included visits to the Geretsried State Fire Brigade School and to the comrades in Egling, who already have a similar system and have had good experiences with it.

It is not a matter of course for Müller that the maintenance of around 300 hoses from all five fire departments is made easier in this way.

"There is a lot of money in it and we are very grateful that it has been invested in this way."
