Relaxation in Bavaria, openings in Austria: Just in time for the Whitsun holidays, the corona rules will be defused in many places.

In the Miesbach district, however, the opposite is happening.

District

- So far, guests have experienced the Miesbach

district

as an island of holiday happiness. In the first pandemic summer of 2020, despite some restrictions, they were able to spend a largely carefree stay between Schliersee and Tegernsee. At least during the Whitsun holidays, however, they will have to circumnavigate the Alpine region generously. Because the 7-day incidence on Friday, at 154, is still far from a limit of below 100, which is necessary for relaxation in the catering and hotel industry, complete lockdown continues to apply to tourism.

While holidaymakers can move to other districts or even back to Austria shortly, the local hosts are becoming increasingly frustrated.

The region as a lonely Corona stronghold that nobody can or wants to travel to.

At the same time, the question arises more and more: Why is it that the incidence in the district is not going down?

What is the mood like with the hosts and restaurateurs?

Schliersee's Kuramtsleiter Mathias Schrön has already written off the start of the Whitsun holidays. Instead of opening their guest rooms and terraces, businesses are preparing for a wave of cancellations. "We already had a few bookings," reports Schrön. Anyone who pays for the costs would have to clarify travel law experts. The guest information refers to a free webinar by the Tourist Association of Upper Bavaria Munich (TOM) on Tuesday, May 18th. Otherwise, Schrön recommends that hosts and guests contact the Alpine region Tegernsee-Schliersee (ATS) if they have any questions about Corona: "We have to speak with one voice on this matter." The uncertainty is great enough, but reliable information is rare.

Overall, Schrön hopes that the incidence in the district will fall quickly - well below 100. A commuting at the threshold value would be the “mega-disaster”.

And the damage to image gigantic if you had to send guests home in the middle of their vacation.

This is another reason why some hosts have already decided not to open before June 1st.

Daniel Strillinger, chairman of the Bad Wiessee tourist and health resort association, can understand that: “Up until a few weeks ago there was hardly any hope - and after that brief glimmer there are now long faces again.” The simultaneous vacation in countries with an incidence of up to 200 is possible for those tested without a follow-up quarantine, he considers problematic: "It would be a lie if I said that we are not frustrated."

Christian Kausch, Managing Director of Tegernseer Tal Tourismus GmbH (TTT), says: “It has been apparent for a few days that we will end up in a stuck arithmetically.” Now it is important to limit the damage. Kausch appeals to the citizens to hold out for another two or three weeks: "If individuals break out now, everyone will have to wait longer."

For Matthias Gercken, owner of the Schlierseer Ratskeller, it is clear that the wait would never end even with an opening date: “If I want to order goat cheese for the menu in June today, that's impossible.” The reason is a lack of maturity, six weeks in advance currently not uncommon for a cheese. “It will take some time before regular menus are available again.” Gercken therefore relies on small cards, to-go offers even after the pandemic, and will supply a kindergarten in the future and maybe soon also private customers. “My 24 employees are happy when things start again at some point. But then the gastronomy has changed permanently. "

Romolo Marchetti, owner of the pizzeria of the same name on Miesbacher Stadtplatz, would like an appointment with a lead time.

“Many of my beer kegs have now expired.

The wine takes a few days to be delivered from Italy and the staff cannot go back to work overnight. ”Marchetti is hoping for a start at the end of May.

Will that work?

"No idea."

Why is it that the county is not getting the incidence down?

The question remains: Why does the incidence in the district fluctuate around 150?

The district office has been talking about a "diffuse infection process" for weeks.

The cluster after the municipal council meeting in Gmund and the outbreaks in the asylum shelters in Valley and Otterfing have so far only made up a smaller proportion of the new infections, the authority announced at the beginning of the week.

In general, it can be observed that many families are affected.

The cluster around several daycare centers in the north has calmed down.

Dr.

Florian Meier from Miesbach confirms the "diffuse events".

The district's medical doctor therefore appeals to people to continue to adhere to the rules - even if it is difficult: "I understand that some are tired, but you can see from the numbers that infections can easily occur."

It is also conceivable that the “good willingness to test” in the district would make a contribution to the high incidence.

Since the tests were documented in the system on April 30th, around 20,500 tests have been recorded - "last Saturday it was 1045, on Ascension Day 711".

Nevertheless, the willingness to test is very positive for the overall development, emphasizes Meier: "This way, infected people can be identified at an early stage, which prevents them from unconsciously infecting others."

What has to happen so that things finally go in the right direction?

But what does it take for the corona situation in the district to improve?

The district office emphasizes that the infrastructure is there.

The use of the free rapid tests in the already well-established network is a good way to interrupt chains of infection at an early stage.

The 22 employees in the contact tracing team are also trying to do this.

But they too are dependent on the cooperation of the population.

In the past few weeks you have felt an increasingly rougher and incomprehensible tone in the contact follow-up, according to the district office.

You notice the rather negative mood in the country, which is caused by the confusion of constantly changing requirements.

Unfortunately, it still happens that the employees are lied to in order to possibly escape a quarantine.

The authority has no understanding for this: “We don't want to tease people, we want to protect them.” And so reduce the incidence that the return to normality begins - especially in gastronomy and tourism.
