Most of these projects have been discussed for a long time and come back on the agenda in various procedural steps.

The building project, on which a fundamental debate arose in the most recent meeting, was by far not the largest. But it happened to be the first on the agenda: the planned new building of an apartment building with 14 residential units and underground parking on the partly fallow property at Münchener Straße 14, directly opposite the "Klangfabrik". The preliminary inquiry for this new building with three full floors plus attic was already a topic in the building committee in March. Because the plans in the rear area of ​​Herrenfeldstrasse were found to be too massive, the decision was initially postponed (we reported).

In a conversation with the city building authority, the client modified the plans a little. The rear component will now be shifted two meters to the west and slightly reduced in height, explained building authority employee Stefan Kirchmayer in the most recent meeting: The requirements of the committee have thus been met and “the urban development effect has become considerably less”.

But Green City Councilor Luise Nowak saw it differently: The building was "a bit postponed" in terms of planning, but hardly got any smaller. Which is why the number of residential units remains at 14. "I allow everyone to make maximum use of building permits," said Nowak, but in total it is simply too much. They have extrapolated “that we approve around 400 apartments per year. That is too much growth. ”With this development, Weilheim would have“ 30,000 inhabitants in five years ”, warned the Green representative with a view to the enormous follow-up costs for the city. So much new living space is actually not needed in Weilheim, Nowak added: "Around 300 deaths a year alone will free up 150 to 200 apartments."

“This area of ​​tension exists”, shared Klaus Gast (CSU) in principle Nowak's concern, “and we have to be careful”.

Especially since one finds that apartments in Weilheim "have not become cheaper due to the increase".

But you have to “look carefully where an increase is okay and where it is not,” says Gast: In the case of Münchener Strasse 14, in his view, it is a “very sensible development” because it is taking place in the already built-up area.

Horst Martin (SPD) also agreed that Nowak was “in principle” right: “It can make you dizzy when you look at what kind of living space is being built in Weilheim.” A fundamental discussion in the city council is necessary on this subject.

But with the mentioned project in the built-up area, the criticism does not fit - although Martin would have liked "a little more reduction to the east".

The basic problem “we are all aware of”, emphasized Claus Reindl on the part of the BfW: “But all items on today's agenda are urban densification and not new buildings on the greenfield.” And the city council is already thinking via skimming models, so that the city can “financially make ends meet” in view of the follow-up costs.

City architect Andrea Roppel-Sommer put the numbers Nowak into perspective: “This is not a pure move, you can't extrapolate that.” And then a decision was made on the building request for Münchener Straße 14 - which was only to be assessed “according to structural criteria” , as Mayor Markus Loth (BfW) warned.

With the exception of Nowak, all committee members agreed to the variant presented.
