The construction of the new waterworks in Oberding is progressing.

From summer 2022, it will supply 20,000 citizens from Oberding and the surrounding communities.

Oberding - The construction costs of the new waterworks in Oberding are not exactly cheap, but the location found on the outskirts is even more so: The main line of the drinking water network of the Moosrain Water Supply Association (ZWM) runs through the "Am Moosrain" property and can be reached as quickly as possible Way to connect to the 6.7 million euro building.

The work is currently in full swing, the shell of the 20 by 30 meter building is finished, the next big step is to take place on June 1st: four large and two smaller water tanks as well as hydraulic components for filtering out iron and manganese are necessary, are lifted with a crane.

This is also how steel decks enter the factory.

In the following weeks, the roof, on which a photovoltaic system was installed last, can be closed.

The PV system will be able to cover up to a quarter of the electricity consumption.

This is followed by the interior work.

The total of six containers through which the water will pass will be connected and the control systems installed.

In the end, the water treatment process will be highly automated, and individual functions can even be controlled via mobile phone.

The planning is in the hands of the Kienlein engineering office from Buch am Erlbach, which is experienced in water supply and environmental technology. The architecture gave priority to practical considerations. The later maintenance costs should be kept low. With a facade made of wood, however, it is important that the waterworks fit into the landscape.

When this goes on line according to the schedule in July next year, it will supply around 20,000 citizens from the municipalities of Eitting, Finsing, Moosinning, Neuching and Oberding with a maximum of 120 liters of drinking water per second. The average consumption is 800,000 liters per day. Added to this is the airport's enormous water consumption, which before the pandemic was just under half of the total. In the corona year 2020, the bottom line was only 50 percent of the previous consumption, said Wolfgang Haberger, Managing Director of the ZWM. As the largest customer, so to speak, Munich Airport is taking on more than 40 percent of the construction costs of the new waterworks with 2.9 million euros. The ZWM will write off the remaining amount over an expected 30 years through income from the water fee.The price for one cubic meter of drinking water was raised from 72 cents to 1.24 euros in January and is expected to remain stable for four years. The reason for the increase, however, is to a large extent the inevitable renovation of the supply network, some of which is more than 60 years old: "We want to start now to renew the pipeline network gradually, instead of waiting until a lot of things suddenly fall like an avalanche," explained Wolfgang Haberger .

The new construction of the waterworks was decided unanimously in an association meeting in autumn 2018 after several years of weighing up whether a thorough renovation of the 50-year-old waterworks next to the school center (estimated at 4.5 million) would make sense.

The municipality of Oberding and the ZWM then swapped the affected properties, and the old waterworks on Hauptstrasse could give way to an extension of the school or kindergarten.

In the summer of 2022 - if circumstances allow - the 40th anniversary of the ZWM will be celebrated in addition to the inauguration of the waterworks.
