The extension to the Starnberg District Office is almost complete.

The work should be completed by the end of September, after which the move will begin.

However, the district will not give up all branch offices in the city area.

Starnberg - The seat of the Starnberg District Office has often been a headline for decades - whether it is cost explosion or architecture prize. Another chapter will be completed in just under four months, when the extension should be ready for occupancy. District treasurer Stefan Pilgram, who is primarily responsible for the expansion, is satisfied with the process. The planning for the relocation is underway, which will not be an easy logistical task either.

There is space for between 140 and 160 workstations in the new building, depending on occupancy. Because the district has also partly abandoned ordinary offices: There are so-called multi-user rooms, to a certain extent offices without permanent staff, in which teams can come together and which can be used flexibly - also as a buffer for additional staff. Pilgram does not expect any problems from the trend towards home office, which has increased massively due to corona: "Home office will certainly continue to exist," he says about the time after the pandemic, "but not in its current form." The extension is therefore exactly right, it is neither big (because of home office) still too small (because of increased staff due to more tasks). The planning finally dragged on for well over six years. No major difficulties arose during construction.

It was also clear that the district would combine its departments in the annex, but not all. So the family and parenting advice remains permanently on Moosstrasse - if only because experience has shown that family advice and youth welfare should be a bit apart. The youth welfare office is moving back from Moosstrasse 18b to Strandbadstrasse, and will keep the rooms rented by the district. On the one hand, because the technical college is to be concentrated there until the new building is in place. On the other hand, because a social advice center is to be built there, including the care support point and other offers. The branch office of the health department will also be retained. In the early summer of 2022, the departments from the Tutzinger Hof (environment / nature conservation) should return to the district office. After the extension has been completed, there will initially be relocations within the district office, says Pilgram, in order to create a coherent organizational structure.

What about the cost? Kämmerer Pilgram refers to the budget of 22.5 million euros and to the fact that in autumn of this year the costs will be presented to the district committees with more certainty after accounting for the services. That sounds a bit like an increase in costs, but it should be rather small.
