WhatsApp wants to enforce new terms and conditions and in the worst case threatens its users with account deletion.

The deadline expires on Saturday.

Now the next volte is emerging in the messenger service.

Dublin - The deadline is running out, but the hangman is trembling: At the beginning of January WhatsApp announced new communication and shopping opportunities for companies.

Not a big thing in itself, especially since the new options should be "entirely optional" according to WhatsApp.

Not so optional: the service put the pistol on the chest of its users without any need.

If you do not agree to the new terms and conditions by February 8, you will no longer be able to use WhatsApp from February 9, according to the beginning of the year.

Because that triggered a massive shit storm and migration to the competition, the Facebook subsidiary quickly rowed back and granted its users a new deadline until May 15th.

New terms and conditions: WhatsApp admits mistakes, but sticks to its deadline

Like a prayer wheel, WhatsApp has been asserting for months that the updated terms of use will not change anything for users, especially not in terms of data protection. In numerous posts on the company blog, WhatsApp tried to clarify that "some rumors" were circulating - and admitted errors. "We thought about how we could have better communicated the changes," writes the company, for example. However, it does not deviate from the general terms and conditions.

WhatsApp also explained what happens if you don't agree to the new terms and conditions, albeit very sparsely.

"If you have not consented by this date, WhatsApp will not delete your account.

However, you will then no longer be able to use the full functionality of WhatsApp until you have given your consent.

You will receive calls and notifications for a short time, but you will not be able to read or send messages in the app, ”said an FAQ entry on WhatsApp's website.

General terms and conditions: WhatsApp is backing out again - what's next on Saturday?

This means: If you do not agree to the new terms of use, you will in fact no longer be able to use the app from Saturday.

According to WhatsApp, you then have two options: retrospectively consent or delete your account.

"In the event that you want to delete your account (...), we hope that you will reconsider," it says.

But in view of the new deadline on Saturday (May 15), WhatsApp is now backing down again.

"We will not delete accounts on May 15th, nor will anyone lose the functionality of WhatsApp due to the update," assures the service in the English version of the FAQ entry on the new terms and conditions.

Ruhr24 * also reports on the volte.

They want to send more reminders to users in the coming weeks.

After a "couple of weeks", the message will finally be displayed permanently, it is said.

WhatsApp users who did not agree to the new terms of use by Saturday can continue to use the app to the full.

For now, because Whatsapp has not defined a new grace period.
