The Iranian Ministry of Interior announced today the end of the period specified for the registration of candidates for the thirteenth session of the elections for the presidency of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Iranian Election Commission indicated that 592 people, including 40 women, had registered applications for the presidential elections scheduled for next June 18, during the five days in which the registration door was opened.

The head of the Official Election Commission in Iran, Jamal Arif, said in a statement today that the applicants ’papers will be transferred to the Guardian Committee to study the eligibility of the candidates, and then returned to the Presidential Elections Commission to announce the names of those whose eligibility has been confirmed.

The most prominent applicants on the last day of registration were the head of the judiciary, former presidential candidate Ibrahim Raisi, former parliament speaker and advisor to the leader of the Islamic revolution for international affairs, Ali Larijani.

He also submitted a request to nominate the Secretary of the Expediency Council, Mohsen Rezaei, former Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan, Iranian Vice President Ishaq Jahangiri, former Secretary of the National Security Council Saeed Jalili, and Tehran Mayor Mohsen Hashemi.

The nomination of the former president of the Radio and Television Corporation, Izzat Allah Derghami, the former deputy speaker of the Iranian parliament, Masoud Bazashkyan, the former Minister of Transport, Abbas Akhundi, and others were registered.

According to the presidential election schedule announced by the Iranian Ministry of Interior, the names of the candidates for the presidential elections will be announced on the 26th and 27th of May, after their eligibility was confirmed by the Guardian Council, which supervises the elections.

The Guardian Council’s decision stipulates that the candidate should be between 40 and 75 years old, have a master’s degree or its equivalent, and have held an administrative position for a period of 4 years.

The propaganda campaigns will start for a period of 20 days from May 28 to June 16, and the country will enter a period of electoral silence on June 17.

The registration period for candidates began last Tuesday.

It is noteworthy that the thirteenth session of the Iranian presidential elections will take place on the 18th of next June, in addition to the sixth session to elect members of city and village councils across the country, the first supplementary session of the elections for the Islamic Consultative Assembly in its eleventh session, and the second supplementary elections for the Fifth Assembly of Experts.
