The day before, Mohammad Kassem Tahhan, 21, had succumbed to his injuries.

According to ANI,

"two shells"

fired by the Israeli army fell near the demonstrators, some of whom had tried to cross the border between the two neighbors still officially at war.

The demonstration he was attending was organized to denounce the deadly Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip and to support the Palestinians in Jerusalem.

In Adloun, in Tahhan's native village, the main avenue was covered with portraits of the young man, the representative smiling in front of a reproduction of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem.

“He was very much loved in Adloun.

Always ready to lend a hand, ”

recalls Karim, 17, a friend of Tahhan.

Hezbollah operatives in military fatigues carried the coffin covered with the yellow flag of the Shiite movement, an AFP correspondent noted. Waving Palestinian or Hezbollah flags, the hundreds of participants chanted slogans in support of the Palestinian cause.

"Towards Jerusalem we are going, Martyrs by the millions"

,

"Death to Israel"

, notably shouted the participants, according to the AFP correspondent.

The powerful Shiite movement of Hezbollah, sworn enemy of Israel that it has fought several times, on Friday greeted the memory of Tahhan, who had fallen

"as a martyr".

Dozens of Lebanese had gathered in the Khiam plain, facing the Israeli town of Metoulla, across the border. The Israeli army said its tanks had

"fired warning shots at rioters who crossed from Lebanon into Israeli territory."

On Saturday, the Lebanese army deployed in southern Lebanon to avoid any overflow. Demonstrations bringing together a few dozen people commemorated the Nakba, which marks for Palestinians the

"catastrophe"

represented by the creation of the Hebrew state in 1948.

In the Kfar Kela border area, protesters smashed Israeli surveillance cameras, according to ANI. The demonstrators climbed a separation wall and hoisted two Hezbollah and Palestinian flags on a watchtower, an AFP correspondent noted. The latter heard gunfire coming from the Israeli side, as the demonstrators pebbled the wall and threw Molotov cocktails. ANI said two demonstrators were injured by

Israeli

“enemy fire”

. Hospitalized, they are in

"stable condition"

according to ANI. The AFP correspondent reported tear gas firing from the Israeli side. The Lebanese army intervened to drive the demonstrators away from the wall.

Near the town of Marjayoun, ANI also reported clashes between Palestinian demonstrators and Lebanese security forces. Earlier on Twitter, an Israeli army spokesperson called on Lebanese authorities to prevent

"rioters"

from approaching the border.
