Of course, one wonders whether a newspaper interview would have started the other way around. So if instead of a 40-year-old woman with two children, a man of the same age in the same situation had entered the race for chancellorship for the Greens: “Bild am Sonntag” wanted to know from Annalena Baerbock at the start of a conversation: “You and your husband are Parents of two daughters (5 and 9). How do you organize your life during the Chancellor election campaign and afterwards? «
Whether such an approach is justified has been intensively considered since Baerbock was a candidate.
Some see it as discrimination, others think that the question of family organization is a prerequisite for something to change.
Baerbock is the first mother with young children who wants to join the Chancellery and has serious opportunities.
So the constellation is new, which also explains why your answer is worth reporting.
In addition, Baerbock himself brings up the topic of family.
She does not declare the double burden of being a mother and a politician a taboo subject, but instead converts it into a quality feature.
Baerbock said to the "Bams" now: "My husband takes full responsibility and work at home."
Her partner Daniel Holefleisch has already reduced his hours at work in the past few years, as she "leaves the house early in the morning and comes home at night".
From August he will take a break and then be "completely at home" to be there when the younger daughter starts school.
"It is my husband who mainly takes care of daycare, school, homework and snacks."
If Baerbock wins, Deutsche Post will lose a "Senior Expert Corporate Affairs", that is, a lobbyist.
Holefleisch currently holds this position.
"If I accept a government position, it is very clear that my husband will not continue his work there like this," says Baerbock.
