Boiling is not enough: polluted drinking water in Bavaria - showering and bathing are also prohibited

In parts of the district of Günzburg there is currently a warning about pollution of the drinking water.

Boiling alone is not enough - all contact should be avoided.

Bibertal

- In the Swabian district of Günzburg, there is currently considerable pollution of the drinking water in the community of Bibertal.

In the districts of Silheim and Kissendorf, E-coli bacteria, enterococci and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were detected in the water.

The contamination cannot be removed by boiling the drinking water.

Therefore, the use of drinking water has to be completely avoided at the moment.

Water pollution in the district of Günzburg: Do not drink, do not shower, do not open the tap

The following applies in the affected parts of the municipality:

• Do not drink tap water.

• Do not prepare food, brush your teeth or clean open wounds with tap water.

• It is not enough to boil the tap water.

• The tap water cannot be used for showering, bathing and washing.

• Any contact with tap water should be avoided and the taps should be closed.

• The tap water can be used to flush the toilet.

Drinking water in the district of Günzburg polluted: those affected can do that now

Fire brigades, laboratories, the health department, water control and administration are currently working on restoring clean drinking water as quickly as possible and eliminating the disruption of the water network.

Until the drinking water supply is safe again, the municipality has taken the following measures:

• Provision of bottled drinking water.

  Two liters per person per day.

• Fresh water withdrawal point at the FC Silheim sports center.

• Shower facilities with advance notice in the Landgasthof Waldvogel and in the Brauereigasthof in Autenried as well as without advance notice in the hotel reception on the A8 Leipheim Süd autobahn, direction east (Günzburg)

• A possibility for washing clothes should also be created.

The next drinking water supply with bottles for the districts of Silheim and Kissendorf will take place on Monday, May 17th, 2021 between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. in the parking lot of the Kissendorf primary school.

The district will inform you as soon as the water is safe to use again.

The cause of the water pollution could be multiple burst water pipes in the community that occurred last week.
