Cinema: Ischia Global awards the Oscar-winning octopus

The Social Cinema Award of the 19th edition of the Ischia Global Film & Music Festival (18-25 July), this year dedicated to the sea and the environment, was assigned to 'My Octopus teacher'. (HANDLE)


(ANSA) - NAPLES, MAY 16 - The Social Cinema Award of the 19th edition of the Ischia Global Film & Music Festival (18-25 July), this year dedicated to the sea and the environment, has been assigned to 'My Octopusteacher'. The Oscar-winning documentary (Italian title 'My friend in the sea', Netflix) by Pippa Ehrlich, James Reed and CraigFoster, which tells the incredible friendship between a diver photographer and an octopus, will be awarded by the American director Fisher Stevens. Already in the golden register of the Social Cinema Forumischitano with the Leonardo di Caprio Foundation for environmental commitment, Fisher Stevens (a statuette to his credit for "TheCove - The bay where dolphins die), thisyear he is also the coordinator of the Ischia Global Special Contest to which over one thousand two hundred works from 90 countries have been registered so far.


   Ischia Global 2021 also relaunches its partnership with "Marevivo", the historic association founded and chaired by Rosalba Giugni, with a program of meetings and a review of films on themes related to the sea. There will also be works that have caused discussion, such as the recent documentary-investigation 'Aspiracy' by Ali Tabrizi (Netflix), on the dark sides of intensive fishing.


   '' After the traditional focus on the various cinemas of the world for this special edition of the rebirth, in a 'Covid free' Ischia and increasingly attentive to sustainability, we have chosen to put the sea at the center of the Social Forum.


   We will do it as usual with a global breath, starting from our Mediterranean, to testify the commitment of the international entertainment world to the environment, also discussing the opportunities that we will have to seize by emerging from the pandemic crisis', explains Pascal Vicedomini, founder of the event.


   President 2021 the American actress Gina Gershon, (muse of Woody Allen in Rifkin's Festival) who will be flanked by PieroChiambretti, the Global Festival is organized with the Accademia Internazionale Arte Ischia and the support of DG Cinema and Audiovisual of the MiC and the Campania Region, honorary presidents are producers Trudie Styler and Tony Renis. The organization of the festival 'in presence' will make use of the supervision of the Italian Red Cross. (HANDLE).
