The corona numbers continue to fall, and the incidence is also easing nationwide.

But the RKI emphasizes: the current case numbers could have been strongly influenced by the holiday.

Berlin - After the long, hard Corona * winter and the strict measures in lockdown, the current infection numbers of the past few days should finally be a first ray of hope.

While the corona numbers were at a consistently high level until recently, the situation seems to be finally easing.

The Robert Koch Institute * reported a decrease in the number of infections in the past few days and the RKI also reported a significant decrease on Sunday compared to last Sunday.

But this time the numbers could have a deceptive effect.

Corona in Germany: RKI publishes current figures - figures could have been influenced by public holidays

According to official information, 8,500 people have tested positive for the corona virus * in the past 24 hours.

A week ago, the health authorities in Germany reported a value of 12,656 new infections to the RKI.

Usually, the number of infections is lower on Sunday compared to the rest of the week because there is less testing on the weekend.

And because many health authorities do not report any numbers on weekends.

But as the RKI emphasized in its current situation report from Saturday evening, the public holiday of May 13th must now also be taken into account.

Through this it must be assumed that fewer people would have seen a doctor on both the public holiday and the bridge day.

"This means that fewer pathogens are reported to the responsible health authorities," the RKI continues in its report.

Corona in Germany: the seven-day incidence continues to fall

And the seven-day incidence also seems to be slowly but steadily declining, on Sunday the RKI reported a nationwide value of 83.1 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants.

The day before this incidence was 87.3, in the previous week it was 118.6.

According to the information, 71 new deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours.

A week ago there were 127 dead.
