A gendarme was wounded in the arm on Saturday May 15 afternoon during clashes with ultra-left activists on the Franco-Italian border, at the Montgenèvre pass (Hautes-Alpes), AFP learned on Sunday from the prefecture.

These clashes took place on the sidelines of a three-day pro-migrant rally located in Claviere, Italy, called “
Passamontagna
” (
balaclava
).
Gendarmes had been deployed to secure the site on the French side of Montgenèvre, said the prefecture.
The
police
wiped projectile jets on Saturday afternoon and used tear gas to "
repel demonstrators who were trying to force the roadblock
" of the gendarmes, it was added.
A gendarme was injured "
not seriously
" in the forearm and supported by the emergency services, according to the prefecture, specifying that no arrest had been made.
Since Saturday 4 p.m., no new scuffle has been observed in Montgenèvre.
