As of noon on May 16, Singapore had 49 new confirmed cases of new coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19) in a single day, of which 38 were local infections, which is a single-day high in more than a year.

Of the 38 cases, 20 were related to previous cases, and 18 were of unknown origin.

The last time Singapore recorded the largest number of local infections was April 14, 2020, and the number of cases reached 40.

According to the "fuse mechanism" of Xinggang, if there are more than 5 cases of unknown origin every day for 7 consecutive days in the two places, the travel bubble will have to be stopped immediately.

Judging from the situation in Singapore, the 7-day average is approaching the upper limit of the trigger mechanism.

Hong Kong’s Secretary of Commerce and Economic Development Qiu Tenghua quoted Singapore’s Minister of Transport as saying on the 14th that there is a high chance that the tourism bubble between the two places may not be able to restart as scheduled.

The government resumed the most stringent anti-epidemic measures until June 13, including the implementation of a two-person "restriction order", fast food restaurants to provide dine-in food, and only two visitors per household per day.

The authorities will review it in 2 weeks.

The outside world is speculating whether Singapore will take more stringent measures.

Health Minister Wang Yikang said at a press conference of the inter-departmental anti-epidemic working group on the 16th that it is currently difficult to answer the question of whether to implement a circuit breaker. The authorities need to observe the development of the epidemic in the next few days. The number of confirmed cases may increase or remain unchanged.

He said that if it is necessary to tighten epidemic prevention measures and enter the stage of blocking measures, the government will definitely do so.

Singapore intends to vaccinate more people to fight the epidemic.

Wang Yikang said that the government will consider extending the interval for the second dose of vaccination from the current 3 to 4 weeks to 6 to 8 weeks when entering the second phase of the national vaccination plan.

He said that if the government makes a decision, details will be announced soon.

As of the 16th, a total of 61,585 confirmed cases have been recorded in Singapore.
