The chairman of the Democratic Party’s Gender Equality Committee, Zou Yingheng, pointed out that the local sex minorities are discriminated against in their daily life and the current system, but he believes that the Hong Kong government has made no progress in gender equality in the past years, which makes people feel that the government is "talking about it as it is." Therefore, the government is required to correct the mistakes as soon as possible and deal with the problems seriously.

The vice chairman of the committee, Mo Jiancheng, said that the promotion of gender equality must adopt a top-down model, that is, "government-led development and non-governmental assistance to promote." The government must ensure that there are sufficient resources for gender equality in the future.

Committee member Ye Zijie believes that discrimination on sexual orientation in Hong Kong society stems from misunderstandings and lack of relevant public education. To eliminate the inconveniences of sexual minorities in life and systems, the government and citizens need to deal with problems in a tolerant and loving way. .

The committee puts forward four initiatives to the government regarding gender equality in Hong Kong, including setting up more gender-friendly toilets in public facilities; formulating a large-scale public education plan; enacting a sexual orientation discrimination law, enacting a gender recognition law, and revising marriage laws.
