Authorities believe she used a butcher knife to commit the crime after having an argument with her husband. Officers went to his home and found the bodies with "obvious signs of trauma." The woman was arrested and charged with two counts of first degree murder.

Authorities found the lifeless bodies of a 9-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy Saturday morning in an apartment in Tempe, a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona.

Previously, the children's mother had stopped a police officer and confessed that "she heard voices telling her to kill her children," according to authorities.

The agents went to their apartment and found a large amount of blood on the floor and

the bodies of the two minors covered by a blanket and with "obvious signs of trauma" and wounds that showed that they tried to defend themselves

, according to Sergeant Steven Carbajal. , spokesman for the city police.

Yui Inoue, 40, the mother of the children, was the one who stopped a police officer from Tempe at approximately 7:00 am, near a police station.

When officers discovered the incident, she was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, according to authorities.

Inoue had blood and lacerations on her body, and officers found more bloodstains on her car and

a butcher knife with a 6-inch blade that also had traces of blood on it and which they believe may have been used in the event

. according to the police.

The authorities explained that hours earlier they had received a call denouncing a domestic dispute involving a married couple in the same apartment.

Police say they were arguing over money to move to Japan, according to AP.

According to Carbajal, the couple was separated and there were no arrests.

The children were in her bed at that time and at that time there was no apparent reason to call agency staff for the care of minors.

"There did not appear to be an immediate threat to the children," the spokesperson stated.

“Parents, couples, argue and disagree, and have problems that come up all of a sudden,” which usually don't require that kind of intervention.

Carbajal called the incident "tragic"

and confirmed that they were doing everything to support the father of the minors, who was not in the apartment when the officers returned and found the children dead.

"It is unfortunate that two children who depend on their parents, especially their mother, to take care of them have been involved in something so tragic," lamented a police spokesman in an interview.

The crime scene prompted the agents who found the minors dead are receiving therapy.

"It was very traumatic for our officers to enter the house.

We are trained to see these things, but there is something superior when they are children

. This should never have happened," Carbajal explained.

“Many of the officers who answered that call have children, and even those who do not, we see many tragedies throughout our careers.

But you can't prepare for something like this, ”added Carbajal.

The police officers who discovered the bodies of the children were not the same ones who came to the apartment just after midnight to attend to the complaint of a domestic dispute.
