French insurance company AXA (AXA) confirmed on Sunday (16th) that its Asian subsidiary Asia Assistance was recently attacked by the ransomware Avaddon, which affected its IT operations in Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines.

According to Reuters, AXA said that some of the data processed by Thailand's Inter Partners Asia was stolen. The company will notify all affected businesses or individual customers and has launched an investigation.

The British "Financial Times" reported earlier that, according to a dark web post, hackers used the ransomware Avaddon last Saturday (15th) to steal 3TB of data from the Asian subsidiary of AXA.

Earlier, the network of Colonial Pipeline, a large-scale oil pipeline operator in the United States, also suffered a hacking incident. The news stated that the company paid a ransom of nearly $5 million to hackers.

The hacker organization DarkSide, which was alleged to have launched the attack, reported that it was preparing to disband.
