Beijing calls on Washington to stop obstructing international decisions

China called on the United States to stop playing the role of obstructing international resolutions and to carry out its responsibilities in the Security Council, against the background of Washington’s obstruction of yesterday’s issuing a statement that puts an end to the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.

Xinhua quoted Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi as saying during his presiding over an open session of the Security Council on (the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue) via video technology: “The Security Council has failed to speak with one voice due to the obstruction of one country by one country ... and China from Its side calls on the United States to assume the responsibilities entrusted to it, to adopt a just stance, and to support the Security Council in playing its supposed role in calming the situation and contributing to a political settlement.

Wang noted that the situation is very dangerous with a large number of civilian casualties, including children and women, and the international community must act urgently to prevent further deterioration of the situation.

The Chinese Foreign Minister called on the Israeli occupation authorities to fulfill their obligations under international agreements and lift the blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip as soon as possible, and to ensure the safety and rights of the Palestinian people. He also called on the international community to secure humanitarian aid to the Palestinians and the United Nations to play its role in preventing a humanitarian catastrophe.

He renewed China's support for a political settlement that would guarantee the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with full sovereignty, with Jerusalem as its capital, within the borders of June 4, 1967.

The Israeli occupation has launched a massive, barbaric aggression eight days ago against the besieged Gaza Strip, in addition to its attacks in occupied Jerusalem and the rest of the cities and towns of the West Bank and the occupied Palestinian territories in 1948, which have so far caused 218 Palestinian martyrs and injured more than 5604 others.
