Boca Juniors won the Argentine Superclásico on penalties after drawing 1-1 against River Plate in regular time on Sunday.

The match, which corresponded to the quarterfinals of the Professional Soccer League Cup, began with a goal at minute 11 by Carlos Tevez.

There was controversy in this play for what apparently was a push from the Argentine player before scoring;

however, no fault was called.

At minute 68, River's response came in La Bombonera with a header from Julián Álvarez.

The tie was maintained until the end of the 90 minutes of the match, so the penalty shoot-out had to come to decide the winner.

In this instance, Boca won with a score of 4-2.

Despite the defeat, one of the players most applauded by the fans was Alan Leonardo Díaz, a 21-year-old goalkeeper who made his debut in the first division tonight due to the multiple cases of covid-19 that the team reported on Saturday.

The starting and substitute goalkeepers were involved in the team's covid-19 cases, and for this reason Leo Díaz had the opportunity.

Díaz saved Tevez three shots and even in the final shoot he saved a penalty from Edwin Cardona, who tried to score the Panenka-style goal.
