With almost 40% of deaths from covid-19 in the world, the transmission of the coronavirus in the Americas "is far from being controlled," said Carissa Etienne, director of the Pan American Health Organization last week (OPS).

As governments advance their vaccination campaigns, several countries in the region continue to register high death rates from the pandemic.

This is how the week of May 17 begins in some of the countries most affected by the pandemic in Latin America.

Mexico

The Ministry of Health of Mexico reported last week that the Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks released the first batch of Cansino vaccines against covid-19 packaged in Mexico for emergency use in the country.
