The emergency room of the Policlinico di Bari is still closed following the fire that broke out late yesterday evening in the basement of the structure, where there was waste and linen. The firefighters worked all night to secure the area and technical surveys are still underway to ascertain any damage and understand the origin of the flames. Outside the area there is still a burning smell.
After the fire, the emergency room was evacuated due to the thick smoke that spread and 16 patients were transferred to the external emergency module and placed in safety. The rest of the pavilion, on the other hand, remained operational at all times. They are not injured or intoxicated.
"The damage - says the Polyclinic - was limited to the environments and equipment. Checks are underway to ascertain the causes of the fire. The first aid area is currently not yet accessible due to the intense smell of smoke" .
