It caused discussions and smiles, now the secret of the originator of the Dorfen “Corona asparagus” has been revealed.
Dorfen - An ambiguous wooden sculpture in Dorfen provided controversial discussion material, smiles and guesswork.
A three-meter-high "Corona asparagus" was set up by strangers on Thursday night at Marienplatz.
The only indication is a wooden plaque with the inscription: "As the asparagus is, the pandemic is coming to an end".
Now the copyright has been revealed: the “artists” are down-to-earth craftsmen and identified themselves on Saturday morning at the local newspaper.
Markus Bauer, a self-employed carpenter from Niederham near Dorfen, as well as the self-employed master carpenter Martin Strobl from Grub near Lengdorf and Simon Krickl from Mögling near Taufkirchen started the campaign.
Also there was carpenter student Markus Schumacher from Wattendorf near Walpertskirchen.
Now the asparagus is going under the hammer - for a good cause
For the stability of the oversized asparagus - some people from Dorfen said it was more like a phallus - the carpenters mounted the object on a large wooden base. Nevertheless, strangers had knocked down the bar on Saturday night. A motive was not recognizable. This in turn caused the carpenters to shake their heads: “We didn't expect anything like that.” In order not to take any risks, they transported their sculpture away again.
The craftsmen said that they not only wanted to ensure some fun and other discussions than Corona, but also wanted to do something good with their action.
The carpenters together donate 1000 euros for a charitable, social cause for the benefit of needy children in the region.
And on top of that, “a hopefully high sum” will come from an online auction of the superb asparagus on the eBay platform.
The asparagus can be viewed at the Strobl carpentry.
