Where to sleep in the Gers? Seven favorite addresses to discover Gascony

2021-05-18T18:03:51.852Z

Halfway between Bordeaux and Toulouse, the Gers is an invitation to take control of the fields. Its Piedmont landscapes, its vineyard slopes and its bewitching light celebrate a gentle France like a song by Trénet. Our selection of hotels to rock your stay with a tender carefree spirit.

Monastery of Saint-Mont, Saint-Mont

Years of work were necessary for this thousand-year-old Cluniac monastery to regain its luster and its cachet.

The renovation completed recently revealed 11 charming rooms where special attention has been paid to textures and lighting.

This luxurious getaway, on the borders of the Gers and the Landes, allows you to explore in peace the vineyards of Saint-Mont, Madiran and Armagnac.

A swimming pool with views of the countryside and a spa for exclusive use await you on your return.

Just like “La Petite Table” which has everything of a large one, or the “Bérets Noirs” bistro which serves inspired tapas and matured meats seared at kamado, the Japanese barbecue.

From 135 €.

The Monastery of Saint-Mont Boutique Hotel & Spa, 627 rue Bernard Tumapaler, 32400 Saint-Mont.

Hotel College des Doctrinaires, Lectoure

The Deluxe Suites are located mainly on the first floor of the hotel and all have equipped kitchen areas.

This beautiful 17th century building has survived the ages by being in turn seminary of the Congregation of Doctrinaires, annex to the hospital and public high school.

Its regular and somewhat austere lines now house 44 spacious rooms with kitchenette.

Milky white, they call out the special light of Lomagne.

The hotel opened in 2019 is directly linked to the Lectoure thermal baths by a tunnel.

It allows curists to follow their treatments and travelers to enjoy the spa without having to step outside.

We particularly like the lounge with the French ceiling and the monumental fireplace where you can savor an Armagnac at the end of the evening.

From 109 €.

Annual closure from December to March.

Domaine de Baulieu, Auch

Five minutes from Auch, in the heart of Gascony, this old typical Gers farmhouse has been restored and transformed in order to offer a setting that combines the traditional with the contemporary.

The old farmhouse deliberately turns its back on the city to open onto the undulating valleys of the Gers. The rustic charm of the countryside and the old stone are complemented by modern and urban notes. The 29 rooms installed in the old building offer clean lines contrasting with the bucolic views of the grassy meadows. Massive oak beams and dry stones are revealed. Furniture with angular lines and sofas in aged leather are revealed. The gourmet restaurant awarded with a green star takes possession of an annex dressed in wood and glass. Spa and heated swimming pool allow you to relax after a day of sightseeing, while two escape game rooms enliven family evenings. From 95 €.

Projan Castle, Projan

With its impressive collection of contemporary art, mixed with some imposing 17th and 18th century furniture, this is an extraordinary hotel.

If it has been 1000 years since a castle has occupied the top of this hill, the building that you discover at the end of the tree-lined alley displays an 18th century style. It dominates an undulating piedmont landscape lined with vines that give the dark wines of Madiran. The restoration work has left the exposed beams, doors and fireplace mantels in sandblasted oak, crisp parquet floors. A great lover of art, the owner of the premises mixes period furniture and contemporary paintings without complex. With only 8 rooms, this three-star establishment can be privatized for a week or a weekend. You then benefit from the swimming pool and the 10 hectare park just for you. From 130 €. Annual closing in January and February.

Château de Projan, route du Château, 32400 Projan.

Le Florida, Castéra-Verduzan

Opening onto the hostel's gardens, bathed in light or with a view of the blue sky, the rooms and suites have private terraces and, for some, Jacuzzis.

Not quite a hotel, not really a guest room, Baptiste Ramounéda defines his house as a contemporary inn.

He reversed the tradition of "who sleeps dines" established by his great-grandmother by preferring to focus on the table.

This does not prevent it from offering four rooms in a refined country style to those who come from afar.

Baptiste has brought back from his 15 years in the Parisian fashion bath a very sure taste for the mixture of genres.

Stone, concrete, plastic and wood intersect to create warm and light atmospheres.

The most beautiful rooms have their jacuzzi, inside or on the roofs, and make you want to prolong the game.

From € 135 with breakfast.

Villa Cahuzac, Gimont

The hotel has twelve warm and comfortable contemporary-style rooms and four fully refurbished modern apartments. Villa Cahuzac / Press photo

Palm trees and a colonnaded gallery make this turn-of-the-century villa feel like a sea bath or spa establishment.

The rooms continue this marine masquerade sprinkled with a South-West touch.

The driftwood-colored paneled walls echo the Landes huts on the shores of the Atlantic.

But if there was a cure to be offered to Gimont, it would be foie gras and the antipodes of the recommendations of the Faculty.

This year, Pierre Dubarry may hand it over to Jérôme Navarre, a figure in Toulouse bistronomy, he will continue to run a foie gras workshop from November to March in the hotel kitchens.

From 95 € with breakfast.

Flaran farm

This beautiful country hotel occupies the old farm buildings of the Abbey of Flaran, a Cistercian gem founded in the 12th century.

The large building of blond stones is planted in the middle of the fields and watches the Baïse flow lazily.

It houses 13 stylish rooms, freshly redone and invigorated by bayadere fabrics in spicy colors.

The most beautiful open onto the swimming pool and the garden with groves.

Regional products and traditional recipes take possession of the table, much appreciated by local customers.

From the Ferme de Flaran, it will be easy for you to explore the “cathedrals route” which follows the road to Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle, from Lectoure to Eauze.

From 90 €.

La Ferme de Flaran, Bagatelle, 32310 Maignaut-Tauzia.
