Without nightclubs, the mayors of the coast fear "wild parties" this summer

In a column published in Le Parisien, these local elected officials of seaside resorts plead for a reopening of nightclubs on June 30.

While the nightclubs have been closed since March 16, 2020, with no reopening horizon, around fifteen mayors of seaside resorts are pleading so that they can reopen on June 30.

These establishments should be fixed on their fate by June 15 at the latest.

In a column published in

Le Parisien

, these local elected officials from Saint-Tropez (Var), La Baule (Loire-Atlantique), Royan (Charente-Maritime), or even La Grande-Motte (Hérault) explain their fear of "

wild festivals

" and call for "

responsible deconfinement

".

"

To the economic disaster may be added disorder and health risk

," says the text. “

Because without alternative routes, wild and disorganized festivals will inevitably make their appearance.

According to these mayors, "

there is an irresponsibility of the State to leave the discotheques closed

". "

I do not have the means to secure the 9 km of beach where young people will want to party by the water, with the dangers that this entails, at the mercy of traffickers ...

", explains Franck Louvrier, mayor (LR) from La Baule and initiator of the platform with Jean Roch, DJ and owner of the VIP Room nightclub in Saint-Tropez (Var).

Private parties without controls (...) that is not the solution.

We must absolutely protect our youth (...) who will want to go out, live quite simply,

”adds Jean Roch, at the microphone of France Info.

There was an anarchy that we fear to live if the discotheques remain closed, she specifies.

We realized to what extent these places were regulators of nightlife and mental well-being

, ”argues in this text the LR mayor of Biarritz (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), Maider Arosteguy.

A health pass?

The deconfinement schedule announced by President Emmanuel Macron does not give any prospect of reopening for nightclubs, hit hard by the Covid-19 health crisis. The mayor of La Baule, also regional councilor, has already proposed a reopening on June 30 of the establishments "

by imposing on them

a sanitary pass

and the installation of air purifiers

". The risks of contamination are in fact considered particularly high in closed establishments.

The Umih Nuit (the union of trades and hospitality industries), also said it was open to the idea of a "

health pass

". Believing that nightclubs were victims of "

discrimination

", without "

any date

" for resuming activity, the nightclub operators filed in early May a summary in the Council of State to request a reopening on June 30.
