The citizen should decide.

That is what the two SPD councilors Ursula Seydel and Bärbel Rauch wish for at the planned aja hotel in Mittenwald.

Mittenwald

- In Mittenwald there is another referendum in the room.

If the two SPD councilors Bärbel Rauch and Ursula Seydel have their way, the basis should decide whether the communal property on Bahnhofstrasse / Dammkarstrasse will actually be left to the investors of Deutsche Seereederei (DSR) for purchase or not.

The red representatives are therefore striving to petition for a council at tomorrow's meeting.

"This is not a hotel prevention application," Rauch assures the daily newspaper. "But we still believe, as we did last year, that we must involve the people of Mittenwald in this far-reaching decision that will fix the use of the property for decades," said a jointly written press release by Seydel and Smoke. "After all, it is the most valuable piece of land that the community has in the center and which is now to be given into private hands." With this, the two social democrats are targeting the DSR, which is located on the 1.1 hectare open space opposite the Rathaus wants to build an aja wellness hotel.

A 55 million euro project that boiled up in the spring of 2020 during the hot election campaign phase.

Let us remind you of the emotionally charged citizens' meeting at the end of February 2020 in the jam-packed TSV hall, at which DSR representatives Lutz Weller and Torsten Vey had to listen to harsh criticism from time to time.

55 million euro project

Which made the bridge builder and mayor Adolf Hornsteiner (CSU) a little bit speechless.

“I don't have the spirit of optimism,” he stated almost 15 months ago.

"We should also see the opportunities."

In the course of this controversial public information, municipal council candidate Seydel also took the floor and exposed herself as a great skeptic of the aja plans. On this occasion, the architect pulled out an expertise from 2019, which speaks of a standard land value of 420 euros. “I don't understand how the same committee of experts can come up with 230 euros, this point gives me pause”, criticized Seydel at the time as a simple citizen.

She has now been on the local council for over a year.

Seydel, who could not be reached for a statement, seems to have relativized her point of view since then, as the statement written jointly with party colleague Rauch undoubtedly shows.

"We are not fundamentally against building a hotel on this property," it says at the beginning.

This also has to do with the new mayor Enrico Corongiu (SPD).

No holiday apartments

He had "negotiated very successfully with the potential and already known investor and achieved some fundamental improvements to the concept originally planned for 2019/20". According to the two SPD women, the controversial parking deck on the station square will be dispensed with. "There will be no holiday apartments and, what is most important for us, a small part of the park will be preserved."

When asked about this, Corongiu says: “I think we negotiated very well.” The last time there were talks with the DSR representatives on April 30th in Mittenwald.

A breakthrough also appears to have been achieved in the price of land.

For reasons of confidentiality, Corongiu does not want to go into details.

In this context, he refers to a public law report commissioned in the meantime and, in his opinion, “neutral” market value appraisal of the district as a basis.

"Without that I would not have entered the negotiations."

Corongiu was in no way surprised by the advance of his party friends Rauch and Seydel.

"You had already expressed this wish in the past."

"This referendum should be carried out as soon as possible after comprehensive information from the municipality by postal vote in order to save time and relieve the administration," says their letter.

The likelihood that the two applicants will obtain a majority with their request is unlikely.

Because even in the own four-member parliamentary group there should be contradiction.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, the subject of requests for advice is, so to speak, only the gallop in terms of aja-hotel.

Because as point two, the municipal council would like to make a decision in principle to implement the project by DSR-Hotelholding-GmbH.
