Vienna - "The starting position for the openings is even better than expected," commented Austria's Chancellor Sebastian Kurz (ÖVP) on the current Corona situation in the neighboring country.

"The curve of those infected with corona points steeply downwards, the curve of those who have been vaccinated steeply upwards," he summarized the situation at the start of the opening week.

Corona in Austria: "Starting position for openings is even better than expected"

After more than half a year, gastronomy, cultural establishments and sports facilities are allowed to reopen with restrictions on Wednesday (May 19).

Some restaurants are already reporting that they are fully booked for the first few days.

In the catering industry, the so-called "3-G rule" applies to access.

Means: Entry only for tested, recovered or vaccinated against corona.

In Austria, under the “3-G rule”, those who have been “vaccinated” also include those who have been vaccinated for the first time from the 22nd day after the first bite, but only for three months from the time of vaccination.

With the second vaccination dose administered, the validity period of the corona vaccination * for entry into restaurants and hotels, among other places, is extended by a further six months.

Corona in Austria: More than 3 million people vaccinated - "Normality" expected in summer for a short time

In the meantime, more than three million people in the Alpine republic have received at least one initial vaccination against the coronavirus *. The Federal Chancellery in Vienna recently said that everyone in the country who wants to get a corona vaccination will also be vaccinated by June. Assuming that two thirds of the population are willing to vaccinate, 60 percent of those who want a corona vaccination * would have received it.

The progress in vaccination among risk groups in Austria * is particularly gratifying.

"By the end of the week, we can expect that in addition to Vorarlberg, Burgenland, Upper Austria and Tyrol will have vaccinated two thirds of those over 50," reported Kurz *.

The Chancellor was optimistic that the positive trend in the Corona situation in the Alpine republic will continue "and that we can return to normal in the summer".

Corona in Austria: First data on infections despite vaccination

At a meeting of the Austrian traffic light commission, the AGES (Agency for Health and Food Safety) presented valid data for the first time on how many people were infected with the virus despite the corona vaccination. This is reported by the

courier

, among others

. However, for the time being there are only exact figures for the federal state of Vorarlberg. Accordingly, 93.4 percent of the 27,600 corona infected * were not vaccinated there. Only 0.5 percent of those infected, i.e. a total of 138 people, became infected more than three weeks after the first vaccination. After the second vaccination, it was only 0.16 percent of those infected, i.e. 44 people in Vorarlberg.

Other federal states also carried out their own surveys, but with different standards. According to

Kurier

, however, the Austrian vaccination coordinator Katharina Reich soon announced more valid data for all of Austria in this context at the meeting of the traffic light commission. Then there should be an intersection of the data from the register for corona infections and the vaccination data.
