General practitioners concerned about the lifting of the vaccination prioritization - "This is not an issue for us at all"

In some federal states, vaccination prioritization in general practitioners' practices was lifted last week.

Bavaria is now also taking part.

General practitioners in Nuremberg are concerned about this.

Nuremberg - Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) had announced that the prioritization of vaccinations for general practitioners throughout Bavaria would be lifted. Up until now, vaccination appointments depended on age, occupation and previous illnesses, and contact with potential high-risk patients also played a role. Only the vaccines from Astrazeneca * and Johnson & Johnson * have so far been approved in medical practices regardless of the prioritization. Now it should apply to all corona vaccines. From this week on, everyone, young or old, can make an appointment for a vaccination against the coronavirus *. So much for theory. In practice, however, it looks very different, as some general practitioners in the Nuremberg region * report.

According to Health Minister Klaus Holetscheck (CSU *), doctors know their patients best and can therefore best assess who needs the corona vaccination most urgently.

"This decision ensures an even more flexible and faster vaccination of the existing vaccines."

Bavaria lifts vaccination prioritization: GPs warn against too high hopes for younger people

There are several reasons why younger people probably don't get their turn despite the lifting of the vaccination prioritization *. "In the course of prioritization, we created waiting lists that we are now of course only working through," explains the managing director of the Medic-Center Nuremberg, Dr. Michael Langer opposite

. There is also simply not enough corona vaccine *. "The release suggests that suddenly there is enough of it, but that's just not the case."

Another reason is that in the very following week, many would have their first second vaccinations.

“In the end, we only have ten to 20 percent of the vaccines available for initial vaccinations.” Langer thinks the step of canceling it is a good thing because it gives the vaccinee the decision.

"But I'm already worried that in the coming week patients will resent us for not taking them on yet," he says.

General practitioners in the region are concerned - "We are not even discussing the lifting of the prioritization"

Dr. Franz Jobst from Fürth * is concerned: “We are not even discussing the lifting of the prioritization. We currently have too many older patients for that, who have so far fallen through the cracks and who we now have to work through. ”He explains to

nordbayern.de

that he also doesn't have enough capacity in his practice. “What we must not forget is that we also have to take care of sick patients. And the summoning of people for the vaccinations, which is very time-consuming by the way, comes in addition. "

Jobst therefore see the lifting of the prioritization mixed. "In the end, it doesn't make a difference to me because I know who has what with my patients and I therefore prioritize myself." The chairman of the Bavarian Association of General Practitioners, Markus Beier, therefore asks citizens to be reasonable: "You can really only ask people to be a little patient and it still makes no sense that everyone rushes into the practices in droves."

The German Foundation for Patient Protection sharply criticized the release of all corona vaccines in medical practices.

As long as there is not enough vaccine, politicians put a "gaping fungus" into society with such a decision, said board member Eugen Brysch of the German press agency.

“It is not the prioritization that hinders vaccination progress, but only the lack of vaccine.” The decisions in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg are an example of “how one can both increase the vaccination pressure on doctors” and create frustration in society .
