Not marked as heir, but eliminated as heir: the brigadier general who defeated the commander's unruly brother
The elimination of the "serial troublemaker" in the Gaza Strip has spawned a struggle for succession and a conscious effort not to set goals for Israel.
The death of Hassam Abu-Harbid made it clear that the effort did not bear fruit

Documentation of the assassination of Brigadier General Northern Gaza in Islamic Jihad, Hassam Abu Haravid (IDF Spokesman)
The IDF and the GSS announced today (Monday) the assassination of Hassam Abu-Harbid, commander of the northern Gaza Strip brigade in the Islamic Jihad organization.
Abu Harbid, the organization's commander for the past 15 years, was killed using a fighter jet.
He was responsible, according to the announcement, for firing numerous rockets at Israel, for shooting incidents at IDF forces as well as for anti-tank attacks, including the one that led on the first day of the operation to injuring an Israeli civilian.

About a year and a half ago, Baha Abu al-Ata, the commander of the military wing of Islamic Jihad, who is considered a "serial troublemaker" in and outside the Gaza Strip, was assassinated.
The struggle for succession included his younger brother and Abu-Ravid, and finally the latter was chosen, based on his proven abilities to deploy and build military forces, and out of a desire to avoid the turbulent nature of the brother.
However, a conscious effort was made not to mark him as an "official" heir, so that he would not serve as a deterrent to Israel.
This effort was not a success.

The shooting at southern settlements did not stop for a moment during the day, but a senior security official described it as "the most convenient place for terrorist organizations, also because of the arms economy."
He said, "They want to keep the shooting to the center to respond to the downing of towers. There is a decrease in the scope of the shooting not because they can not, but because of an internal decision."
He added that "the voices in Gaza are talking about 'let's close this.'
