The European Medicines Agency (EMA) stated on May 17 that the unopened Pfizer-BioNTech new coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19) vaccine can be stored at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius, which is a normal refrigerator temperature, for up to 31 days.
"Pfizer Vaccine" is jointly developed by the American pharmaceutical company Pfizer and the German biotech company (BioNTech).

EMA stated that it had evaluated the stability study data submitted by Pfizer and BioNTech, and then changed its recommendation, stating that the recommended storage period of the vaccine should be increased from 5 days to 31 days at ordinary refrigerator temperatures.
The United States approved the storage and delivery conditions of this vaccine in February, changing from -80 to -60 degrees Celsius under normal circumstances to -15 to -25 degrees Celsius for a period of 2 weeks.
EMA's move is expected to make the storage and handling of vaccines more flexible, helping EU countries and other places to increase vaccination.
