Just in time for the start of the extended Whitsun weekend, the police announce enormous traffic obstructions when entering Tyrol.

What drivers have to expect.

Kiefersfelden / Kufstein - In many places in Bavaria, the first major easing steps were taken this week.

If the incidence was below 100, the beer gardens were allowed to reopen, which for many is a first step towards normalcy.

In Austria too, large parts of social life will open from May 19.

If you can still show a negative Corona test or are even vaccinated, nothing stands in the way of vacationing in the neighboring country with the whole family * - or is it?

The police announce enormous traffic delays at the border.

Austria vacation from Bavaria: punctually for Whitsun, the mega-traffic jam threatens at the border

When entering Austria * from Bavaria on the coming week and the following week, there will be "significant traffic obstructions on the Bavarian side," as the police announced.

The reason: The Austrian authorities carry out block handling of trucks when entering Tyrol.

Austrian emergency services count the trucks heading south on the Inntal motorway (A93) near Kufstein-Nord.

When a theoretical capacity limit set by Tyrol is reached, their journey is slowed down or even stopped entirely.

The consequence of block handling: A mega-traffic jam in the direction of Tyrol.

The campaign will take place just in time for the start of the Whitsun holidays:

  • Friday, May 21st + Saturday, May 22nd

  • as well as Tuesday, May 25 + Wednesday, May 26 + Thursday, May 27, 2021.

  • Only Whit Sunday and Whit Monday are excluded from this.

Probably only because there is a general truck ban anyway on the holidays.

Entry into Austria: traffic obstructions to the A8 to be expected

Drivers who are traveling in this direction on the days mentioned have to be prepared for waiting times.

According to the police report, the traffic jam can even retreat onto the Munich - Salzburg motorway (A8).

The police asks urgently to adhere to the prescribed speed limit of 80 km / h and to form an emergency lane in the event of a traffic jam.

Truck drivers are then instructed to comply with the overtaking ban and to keep the entrances and exits at the interchanges and parking spaces clear.

Parking on the highway or the hard shoulder is prohibited and violations will be consistently prosecuted.
