Fully vaccinated and recovered travelers have more freedom under the new coronavirus entry regulations.
For many, the quarantine requirement no longer applies.
It came into force on May 13, 2021: the new
coronavirus entry regulation
.
This includes the regulations for returnees from high-risk, high-incidence and virus variant areas.
In particular, fully vaccinated people and those recovering from Covid-19 no longer need to show a negative test when entering Germany.
An exception only applies if the return occurs from a virus variant area.
You can find out more about the content of the entry regulations here.
Coronavirus entry regulation for Germany: This is important to note
Those people who can be shown to have recovered from Covid disease for a maximum of six months or who have been fully vaccinated can breathe a sigh of relief.
They are treated the same as those who tested negative, which makes it easier for them to enter Germany.
And the quarantine obligation does not apply, at least when you
return
from a
simple risk
area.
Entrants coming
from a
high incidence area
return can reduce the quarantine time.
A negative result must be presented five days after entry.
However, anyone who has stayed in a virus variant area for more than ten days cannot shorten the quarantine period.
The corresponding subdivision into risk, high incidence or virus variant areas is continuously updated by the Robert Koch Institute.

Coronavirus entry regulation - Austria requires 3-G proof
The entry situation in Austria is similar.
From May 19, 2021, the obligation to quarantine
upon entry
will also no longer apply here
- under certain conditions.
The so-called 3-G rule stipulates that travelers
must provide
proof of vaccination, testing or recovery
.
Day tourists from Germany and other countries with low infection rates must also present this proof.
If this is not done at the time of entry, there is the option of
submitting
a
test within 24 hours
.
Austria also requires 3-G proof for entry from high-risk and high-incidence areas.
Here, however, the following applies: those who have recovered and who have been vaccinated do not have to be quarantined, while those who have been tested cannot.
But here, too, the quarantine time can be shortened.
Entry from virus variant areas is still only possible to a limited extent.
