- In the end all that was left was a steaming metal skeleton in a pool of extinguishing foam: On the night of Monday, May 17, a Mercedes Benz went up in flames in Tegernbach near the Hallertau community of Rudelzhausen.

When the alerted emergency services from the Tegernbach volunteer fire brigade arrived at the scene of the accident at around 0.30 a.m., the car was already in a full fire, as reported by commander Stefan Schuberthan.

The rapid intervention of the voluntary fire-fighting forces at least prevented the flames from spreading to surrounding vehicles.

Because of the enormous heat development, three more cars were damaged, reports the Moosburg police.

The trees in the vicinity could also be saved.

The exact amount of damage has not yet been quantified, but the Mercedes, built in 2002, was completely destroyed.

The mission was over after around one and a half hours, and the Grafendorf fire brigade, which was originally also alerted, was no longer needed.

The emergency services could only speculate about the cause of the fire: As a police spokesman said, spontaneous combustion due to a technical defect is currently assumed.
