People's Assembly Speaker Hammouda Sabbagh today received President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Abkhazia, Valery Kvarchia, and the accompanying delegation.

During the meeting between the two sides, Sabbagh discussed with Kvarchia ways to develop the Syrian-Abkhaz parliamentary relations through the friendship committees of the People’s Assembly and the Abkhaz National Assembly, expressing his hope to increase the bonds of friendship, bilateral cooperation and joint coordination between the two friendly countries, Syria and Abkhazia, in all international forums to serve common interests.

In the meeting, Sabbagh explained what Syria has been subjected to for more than ten years in terms of a conspiracy and a global war on all political, military and media levels, in addition to the unilateral coercive economic measures imposed on the Syrian people, which have increased in intensity and ferocity recently, stressing that the Syrian people have made their decision since the beginning of the war against them with the inevitability of victory. Whatever sacrifices it cost.

For his part, Kvarchia confirmed that the visit of his country's delegation to Syria greatly contributes to pushing forward the relations between the two countries in all fields, indicating that his country will accompany the presidential elections scheduled to take place this month through a delegation from the National Assembly in it, noting the ongoing preparations in Syria to hold these elections on time. According to the Syrian constitution.

Kvarchia announced that his country will continue to stand by Syria and support its just causes, especially in the face of terrorism, directing the President of the Council to invite to visit Abkhazia in a way that contributes to strengthening and developing parliamentary relations, pointing to the importance of mutual visits in developing various aspects of relations.

During the meeting, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia Dawar Kofi and a number of members of the delegation affirmed their confidence that Syria, which faces terrorism with determination and determination, will inevitably triumph in order to finally eliminate it, expressing their thanks for the warm reception that the delegation has received since the start of its visit to Syria.

After the meeting, the Syrian and Abkhaz sides signed an “agreement to promote and develop joint parliamentary work,” where Sabbagh affirmed that the agreement contributes to strengthening parliamentary relations between the two friendly countries and increasing the exchange of delegations, visits and parliamentary experiences, while Kvarchia referred to the importance of the agreement in developing political and parliamentary relations between the two countries.

The meeting was attended from the Abkhaz side, Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly in Abkhazia, Levon Galustian, a number of members of the Assembly’s Council, and from the Syrian side, Deputy Speaker of the People's Assembly Muhammad Akram al-Ajlani, members of the Council’s office, the head of the Syrian-Abkhaz Friendship Committee, the reporter and members of the committee, and a number of council members.
