The Hong Kong Economic, Trade and Cultural Office in Taiwan ceased operations today, and the Hong Kong government stated that it has nothing to do with the local epidemic.
Li Dazhuang, chairman of the Hong Kong-Taiwan Economic and Cultural Cooperation Association, said that in recent years there have been more and more differences between Hong Kong and Taiwan, and it is understood that the closure of the office has been brewing for a long time.
In 2011, the Economic, Trade and Cultural Office in Taiwan opened and was officiated by the then Financial Secretary, Tseng Junhua.
In an interview with the media, Li Dazhuang stated that Hong Kong used the "Hong Kong's Basic Principles and Policies on Taiwan-related Issues" (referred to as the "Qian Seven Articles") issued by the late Foreign Minister Qian Qichen in 1995 as the basis for its exchanges with Taiwan.
However, he believes that in recent years there have been more and more differences between the two sides. As a person in the circle, he is not surprised that the office is closed this time.
He said that it is understood that the decision to close the office has been brewing for a long time, and he believes that the situation of differences remains unchanged and the chance of resuming operations is relatively small.
