A communiqué from the dissidents of the demobilized guerrilla group of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), assures alias "Jesús Santrich" died in Venezuelan territory.
The document, which was only published for a few hours on the internet, says that the event would have occurred on the Venezuelan side of the Serranía del Perijá: “We informed Colombia and the world with pain in our hearts, the sad news of the death of Commander Jesús Santrich, member of the Directorate of the FARC-EP, Second Marquetalia, in an ambush executed by commandos of the Colombian Army on May 17, "the dissidents said in the statement.
CNN has tried to confirm the information with the authorities in Venezuela, including the Ministry of Defense, the Miraflores Palace and the Attorney General's Office, but we have had no response.
Colombian Defense Minister Diego Molano said Tuesday in an interview with CNN that they are investigating the reports.
