The people of Hong Kong love to hit the mountains and "check in." Sometimes they need to send out firefighting rescue to take pictures of beautiful scenes.

"Hong Kong 01" interviewed two rescue heroes from the mountain climbing rescue team. Huang Yongxing, the head of the fire brigade, never remembered a race against time at the beginning of the year. He had to fight the weather and rescue the mountain hikers trapped on the cliff before it rained; firefighters Chen Junjie searched for the missing person in Dadongshan last year. At that time, he was approaching the darkness and stepped straight for 12 hours to take the injured to a safe place. He reminded the public to avoid hiking alone. "A few minor accidents add up to a major accident."

Hikers are trapped on 15-meter high cliffs

Huang Yongxing, head of the Mountain Climbing Rescue Team of the Maanshan Fire Station, joined the team in 2018. The most thrilling action so far occurred in Pushuya, Maanshan in February this year.

The firefighter received a report at 2:30 pm on the same day that a mountain hiker was trapped in the cliff. Due to unstable weather, it had rained. The special team had to rescue him before it rained.

As the head of operations, Sir Huang immediately launched a search after contacting the victim and confirming the coordinates. After walking for 1.5 hours on the mountain road, he found that the victim was trapped on a rock wall 15 meters above the ground.

After being judged, he and his team members "blasted the forest" and climbed the trapped person on a slope of 25 meters or more. After setting up the rope system, he was responsible for the rope rescue and took the trapped person to a safe place. The action lasted about 7 hours.

Huang Yongxing, head of the Fire Brigade of the Mountain Climbing Rescue Team of the Ma On Shan Fire Station, said: "Our firefighters don't care about a word of thanks. I only know that successfully rescuing one person is the most important job."

To save people is to fight the weather quickly

Every second counts for the rescue action. Huang Sir pointed out that because there are always mountains and rivers on the rock wall, he is worried that the trapped will be washed down to the bottom of the cliff. "I don't know how long it will take." It will make the team members slide and increase the difficulty of search and rescue. "So we have to fight the weather quickly and take it to a safe place before it rains."

Sir Huang also rescued the people trapped in the stone stream in the middle of the night. He needed to lift his bed and walk the mountain road to take them to safety. The action took 8 hours. The injured were only slightly injured in the end. He was sincerely grateful for the rescue. Sir Huang felt a lot about this.

Our firefighters don’t care about a word of thanks, but know that successfully saving one person is the most important job.

Step straight on the bottom of Dadong Mountain for 12 hours to save the injured

The firefighter Chen Junjie, who has joined the mountain climbing rescue team for five years, is stationed at Lei Muk Shue Fire Station. He has been dispatched to Tuen Mun, Yuen Long and Lantau Island from time to time. In April last year, the firefighting team received a report from the 30-person hiking team in Tai Tung Shan. A female cross-country runner who was about 60 years old was missing.

After Chen Junjie was called to the scene at 4 pm, he went up the mountain from Qinglong Shijian. At that time, it was only 2 hours before sunset. They saw "Big Break" written on the big stone at the fork. It is believed that the hiking team left behind. It was also the last time I saw the place where the missing person was. Based on the experience that someone was trapped at the end of the cliff, the search and rescue team divided into two groups and went up the mountain to search, and finally succeeded in finding a comatose woman. However, due to the terrain, the helicopter could not approach them, they had to carry it. "Blasting the forest" while lifting the bed, finally successfully sent the lady onto the helicopter at 4 am the next day.

Chen Junjie, a firefighter of the Mountain Climbing Rescue Team of Lei Muk Shue Fire Station, said that a major accident often consists of multiple minor accidents, reminding the public to avoid hiking alone.

"A few minor accidents add up to a big accident"

Novice and veteran of accidents, Chen Sir pointed out that a big accident is often composed of multiple small accidents. There is no companion to assist in the "alone", coupled with insufficient preparation, no water, telephone, good maps, etc., "a few small accidents" Adding to this is a big accident, and novices and veterans have a chance to happen."
