Former Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rosselló shared a message of gratitude on Facebook for having been favored as a candidate by direct vote in the special election held on Sunday to elect six delegates to promote the full incorporation of the Commonwealth to USA.

However, the Puerto Rico State Elections Commission (CEE) has not issued an official communication preliminarily certifying Rosselló's election or the results of other candidates by direct vote.

The EEC gave preliminary results of the candidates that appeared on the ballot papers.

The agency reported that this Wednesday will begin with the general vote count and will also proceed with the direct nomination count.

On November 3, 2020, as part of the general elections, a plebiscite was held for the final definition of Puerto Rico's political status.

The question presented to the voters was: "Should Puerto Rico be immediately admitted into the Union as a State?"

If 'Yes' is favored, the government would begin a transition process for the admission of Puerto Rico as a state of the United States.

The State Elections Commission of Puerto Rico certified the winner as 'Yes' with 52.52% compared to 'No', which obtained 47.48%.

In total, 1,248,176 Puerto Ricans voted.

The congressional delegation that certifies the State Elections Commission will begin its work in Washington on July 1.
