New York Attorney General Letitia James announced late Tuesday that her office's ongoing investigation against the Trump Organization "is no longer purely civil in nature," but will review possible "criminal" infractions by the company of the former Republican president.
"We have informed the Trump Organization that our investigation into the organization is no longer purely civil in nature," said Fabien Levy, James' spokesman. "We are now actively investigating the Trump Organization with a criminal component."
The spokesperson said that the prosecution will not provide further details for the time being.
The New York City Attorney's Office began a civil investigation against the company in 2019. For the past two years, the office has been examining, among other potential crimes, whether the Trump Organization
