The Syrian-Abkhaz Joint Committee for Economic, Commercial, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation held its first session in Damascus today, in the presence of the Prime Minister, Engineer Hussein Arnous, and the President of the Republic of Abkhazia Aslan Bjania.

In a speech during the meeting, Eng. Arnous stressed the importance of making joint efforts to enhance the horizons of cooperation in the common interest of the two friendly peoples in light of the challenges facing their insistence on preserving their national and sovereign decisions, pointing to the Syrian government's keenness to implement the directives of President Bashar Al-Assad to take all necessary measures and decisions to consolidate Bonds of cooperation between Syria and the Republic of Abkhazia confirming the sincere will to establish fruitful economic cooperation.

The Prime Minister explained the importance of developing a practical cooperation approach through governmental-governmental cooperation as well as between the business sectors in the two countries in a way that contributes to enhancing cooperation horizons, holding specialized and technical meetings between the concerned authorities on both sides and supporting investment cooperation projects and trade exchange in the agricultural, industrial and tourism fields, stressing the need for Securing appropriate sea and air transport lines to link the economies of the two countries and facilitate the process of trade exchange.

For his part, the Abkhaz President affirmed that the joint committee constitutes a good base for work between the two sides to develop and develop cooperation in various fields, pointing out that there will be future joint meetings in the business sector and governmental and private companies to find specific mechanisms for cooperation and implementation that will contribute to enhancing trade exchange and scientific, educational and cultural cooperation. The President Bjania said: All efforts will be made to implement what is agreed upon, indicating that the unfair sanctions and pressure exerted on Syria and Abkhazia will give them a push to develop relations in the interest of the two friendly countries and peoples, expressing his wishes for the joint committee success in its work.

Eng. Arnous and the President in Jania held a session of bilateral talks that focused on future cooperation between the two countries and the need to take executive steps for joint investment of the diverse and rich economic potentials of the two countries in a way that guarantees the greatest degree of integration between the economies of Syria and Abkhazia.

During its meeting, the Syrian-Abkhaz Joint Committee discussed cooperation in the fields of transportation, tourism, education, agriculture and the prospects for their development, as Dr. Muhammad Samer Al-Khalil, Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, Head of the Syrian side in the joint committee, explained that the true and sincere will of the two countries will contribute to strengthening and developing bilateral relations.

The Minister Al-Khalil reviewed what had been done during the last period in terms of exchanging information about the laws and regulations governing foreign trade operations between the two countries at the level of import and export, exchanging lists of exportable products from Syria to Abkhazia, in addition to getting acquainted with the Abkhaz market and what it needs from Syria, pointing out that it will be Businessmen have an important role in the next stage. A Syrian business delegation will visit Abkhazia at the end of next June, with preparation for holding an exhibition of Syrian products in the Abkhaz capital.

For her part, the Deputy Prime Minister of Abkhazia, Minister of Economy and Head of the Abkhaz side in the Joint Committee, Christina Ozgan Konstantinovna, said: We will seek to establish joint projects covering various sectors, organize methods of transporting goods from Abkhazia to Syria, strengthen tourism relations, organize economic relations and strengthen relations in the fields of culture and agriculture.

The discussions dealt with enhancing tourism cooperation, exchanging tourism groups between the two countries, establishing eco-tourism resorts as well as prospects for agricultural cooperation, enhancing trade exchange for agricultural products, cooperation in all research and application fields and exchanging experiences in a way that would contribute to facing the blockade imposed on the two countries in addition to developing transportation areas and opening permanent sea lines between the two sides.
