The recommendations of the participants in the symposium organized by the Syrian Engineers Syndicate with the University of Damascus under the title of digital transformation in the construction industry, BIM technology between reality and ambition, focused on the need to amend the regulatory laws that hinder the transition to advanced levels of the introduction of BIM in the construction industry.

Participants in the symposium held in the Rida Saeed Hall at the University of Damascus called for the public sector companies to be qualified to adopt the "BIM" technology and to form a team of specialized experts from the Digital Authority in cooperation with the relevant ministries to develop a strategic plan for its implementation.

From a scientific point of view, the participants recommended introducing "BIM" in the curricula of the Faculties of Engineering, encouraging scientific research, issuing a guide by the Engineers Syndicate in this field to be the core of the code later, and contributing to training and spreading the culture of "BIM" within the engineering cadres.

The symposium included a presentation of the experiments carried out using the "BIM" technology in Syria, which is the experience of the Engineers Association in the retirement treasury tower in Hama, and the experience of Damascus Governorate in the Marota City project.

The Minister of Public Works and Housing Eng. Suhail Abd al-Latif assured in his speech that the digital transformation process is very necessary now. The transition to the application of BIM technology will be carried out in the next phase in cooperation between the concerned authorities of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Engineers Syndicate, stressing the need to move from the stage of promoting the process. In turn, the Secretary of the Engineers Syndicate, Eng. Khader Al-Saleh, explained that the engineering digital transformation has become a reality in the world and is witnessing continuous developments, which requires keeping pace with these developments and employing them in the engineering specializations, stressing that engineers are the main pillar in the reconstruction and reconstruction.

Al-Saleh added that the transformation of the construction sector into a friendly digital industry is important for all investors, contractors and beneficiaries of buildings, and provides better guarantees, greater investment transparency, and a wider use of capabilities and control of the environmental impact.

In a statement to SANA, Sonia Ahmed, head of the Central Committee for Innovation and Application of Technologies at the Engineers Syndicate, confirmed the current preparation for the application of "BIM" technology in the reconstruction stage by qualifying the appropriate cadres and spreading its culture in the public and private sectors, pointing to the formation of a research work team in cooperation between the committee and experts in The field of construction to develop effective steps to train engineering and graduate students on this technology.

In turn, the Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Damascus, Dr. Muhammad Hajim Al-Wadi, stated that BIM technology is very important within the digital transformation that the world is experiencing now, and it limits the waste of resources in many engineering schemes and programs.

Engineer Wahbi Maad, a consultant in an engineering company, explained that the “BIM” technology aims to convert buildings from traditional and classic to modern and smart buildings, pointing out the importance of this experience, especially in the reconstruction phase that Syria is going through, which requires a trend towards a smart system that achieves sustainability and profitability, which means the necessity Qualifying company workers and engineers to create an integrated environment capable of working within this technology.

The symposium was attended by the President of Damascus University, a number of deans of faculties of engineering in public universities, and representatives of engineering companies and consulting studies.
